- Donations to the UMDNJ Autism Center are very much appreciated. Jack is a patient of Dr. Zimmerman-Bier and the work they are doing to find a root cause for autism is incredibly important!
- Donate to organizations trying to find treatments or a cure for autism, like the Association for Science in Autism Treatment, ASAT, www.ASATonline.org
- Donate to supportive organizations trying to educate families, teachers and the community about autism, like the Center for Outreach Services for the Autistic Community, COSAC, www.njcosac.org
- Participate in a Cure Autism Now WALK. There's one coming up in October of '05 and there will be a TeamJack!
- Spread awareness with car magnets, ribbons, etc. www.buttonsandmore.com is a good place to start, or simply to to ebay and search for autism awareness items
Talk About Autism!
We are always in conversations about health, environmental and political issues. Talk about autism and teach someone else about it's devastating effects on families. Your words will reach someone who doesn't have the info and might need help. Early intervention is so important. Listen to friends and family members when they are concerned about their child's development. Help them find resources.
Read About Autism!
Stay informed and learn about the research, personal stories and funding in your area. It is an issue worth considering when you are making voting decisions. What is your candidate doing to improve the lives of children and adults with Autism or Asperger's Syndrome? Is there funding in your school allocated for children with autism? What support is there in your community?
